How we worked it out

What changed in April 2026: SSP is now paid from the first day of sickness (the old 3 waiting days are gone), and the minimum earnings threshold has been removed — so low earners qualify too. The most you can get is the flat weekly rate or 80% of your normal pay, whichever is lower.
Your employer may pay more. Many workplaces offer company (occupational) sick pay that's higher than SSP — check your contract. SSP is the legal minimum, paid for up to 28 weeks.
